Manufacturing engineers are also expected to come up with innovate ideas and creative ways of enhancing the manufacturing process.  For example, they might come up with a faster way to get a product into production or a new material that provides a better function.  Although manufacturing engineers are expected to come up with brilliant ideas on their own, they are also expected to work well in a team.  This is because they need to consult with different members of staff and work with different teams throughout the manufacturing process.

 

This job provides a wide range of different opportunities because manufacturing engineers work in various different sectors.  This means that you can choose the most relevant sector to you that matches your experience and interests.  You may have a strong interest in the food and drink industry and therefore you can aim to improve the food and drink manufacturing process in your chosen company.    On the other hand, you might have experience working in a particular sector such as pharmaceuticals or plastics.

 

Some of the tasks that a manufacturing engineer might be involved with are things like overseeing recruitment of new engineers, creating new manufacturing processes, improving existing manufacturing systems, checking new equipment and planning the production schedule.
