The Characteristics of a Paramedic
Paramedics must be able to communicate extremely well. They must be able to read street name and be able to find the place of emergency as fast as possible. They must be diverse in providing care and in the cultural differences they may run into while on the job. A strong ability to determine changes in details is critically important as they must watch for skin or eye color changes which are signs of serious health problems or reactions to medication given.÷The ability to communicate and work well with others is also needed. They must be able to communicate over a radio, in person or via a phone. They must be able to report patient data on a laptop or computer as well as verbally to nurses or doctors.÷
Paramedics must be able to work in all kinds of conditions such as cold, heat and moisture. They must have good dexterity in order to provide emergency medical care. The ability to make decisive decisions as well as do extensive mathematical calculations to determine the ratio needed for medicine and the amount of supplies in a emergency situation.÷
Perhaps the most important characteristic of a paramedic is the ability to be flexible with the ability to work in an ever changing emergency situation. They have to be able to determine a patient"s condition and their environment quickly. Paramedics must be able to make good judgment of a situation fast so they can administer medical aid as fast as possible.÷
Paramedics are caring people with a strong sense of moral and ethical standing. They must be able to work independently as individuals and be able to work independently from a structured environment. Using emergency medical equipment is essential to the job for a paramedic. Their love of people and for saving lives makes them someone we can inspire to be.
