Is knowledge more important than experience in your resume?

While visiting a careers forum I came across a thread that got me thinking about the importance of subject matter knowledge versus work experience on a resume. The argument was that knowledge is more important than experience because it can be applied on the job to produce good outcomes for the employer whilst experience alone serves little purpose.

How To Write A Successful Resume

How to land a Job in Nigeria with an Internship

What do i mean? An internship is an opportunity to work in the organization of your dreams for little or no pay.

This may sound discouraging but the hidden truth is that an internship opens powerful doors that you ordinarily couldnt get.

In Nigeria, internships start from holiday jobs immediately after secondary school, to NYSC and other jobless periods of your life.

Depending on how diligent you are you may be able to make good use of your opportunity to work in a great organization and work your way up. I interned during my NYSC in a bank and the only reason they kept me and a few others was recognition for hardwork and the fact that they actually needed us, while they gave thank you and goodbye letters to the remainder.

With hardwork and a bit of tact you could be well on your way to building a career of your dreams. Even experienced people that have worked for years can intern, yes!

For instance you have worked for years as a teller and now you think internal audit is the place to be, why not ask if there are any opportunities to learn about what they do, even if its for a lower pay grade?

The trick is to ask around, where can i work and just learn something new? Don"t be too concerned about the pay, the experience is what will set you apart from your peers!
