Discussing the CEO Resume
The CEO, or Chief Executive Officer is the most important person in the management of an organization. In a corporation governed by a board of directors, the CEO is the single most important authority who is primarily responsible for carrying out the plans and policies laid down by the board of directors. In this case, the CEO reports to the board of directors. In a business like sole proprietorship or partnership not governed by a board of directors, the CEO is the single most important authority other than the partners or whoever sets the direction of and oversees the operations of an organization.Key Responsibilities
The CEO is responsible for implementing the strategy agreed upon by the Board in the formulation of which he himself has played a major role. He regularly reports to the Board and informs and consults the Chairman with appropriate and timely information so that the Board and the Chairman can discharge their responsibilities effectively. He develops and delivers the strategic objectives of the company agreed with the Board and recommends significant operational changes and major capital expenditures where these are beyond his delegated authority. He also assigns responsibilities to senior management, establishes a strong management team and oversees the establishment of effective risk management and control systems. All the staff of the company, other than the Chairman"s immediate staff and the Company Secretary, ultimately report to the CEO.
Level of Education Required
It is clear that the CEO is the executive head of the company and along with the Chairman and the Board members is the highest functionary. Obviously, he must be a very senior manager with very sharp skills in different areas of management and considerable formal qualifications. So, the CEO generally has a graduate or post-graduate degree in management, finance or other related areas.
The CEO has the overall primary management and leadership role in the organization. Therefore, it is critical that he have strong knowledge and skills in a wide variety of areas. However, there are certain areas which provide the foundation for the CEO"s knowledge and skill base. These are general management, finance, investment, marketing and sales, nature of industry, economics and technology.
Career Path
No one can become a CEO at the start of their career, except of course sons or daughters of big industrialists or businessmen who may be given this responsibility immediately after their finishing formal education. Others start at the junior managerial or technical level and advance their skills through on-the-job learning, training and experience and yet they may not become the CEO, because the position of CEO is generally identified with the owners of the business. So, in order to become a CEO one must have a strong entrepreneurial ability so that they could establish their own business and become its CEO.
Needless to say there can be nothing more rewarding both intellectually and financially than being a CEO. There are no upper limits to the salary of a CEO and it increases correspondingly with company profits.

When discussing the CEO Resume, being a CEO is the ultimate in the corporate world. However it is not something easy to achieve. One must have very good skills as well as formal education in all areas of business management along with a keen insight into broader political and economic issues.
