Does Your Cover Letter Introduce Your Résumé?

Most don"t! People often say the same thing on their Cover Letter they already said on their résumé. Just as if they submitted 2 résumés. Don"t make that mistake with yours. Your cover letter is an introduction to your résumé. It should make the reader want to go further and read more about you based on how you presented yourself (Block, 2002).

Is your Resume Optimized?

In today"s challenging job market it"s imperative to have a cutting-edge resume if you want to be considered for your target jobs.÷  Step 1 is to make sure that you have a very professional-looking resume in terms of the layout and content.÷  Too many resumes are structured poorly and are too generic.÷  The key is to make your resume stand out, and communicate your unique value to the hiring manager.÷  Too many job seekers waste space on their resume listing generic qualities such as "hard worker" or "top performer".÷  Anyone can say that about themselves.÷  What stands out is to list specific examples of where your hard work led to top performance, and detail exactly what that "top performance" was.÷  Too many÷ job seekers÷ list "duties" in their resume.÷  Hiring managers are much more interested in seeing performance information on your resume versus your daily activities of past jobs.÷  An example would be to list something like "was promoted 3 times in 1 year" instead of "created marketing plans".÷  The resume should be a highlight of your achievements as opposed to a listing of your job history and duties.
